Stunning condition. Comes with everything. Quite rare to get an historic select Les Paul in Australia
Near mint 2015 Gibson Les Paul R8 in a convincing VOS finish. This is one of the “custom select'” models which means it has a hand selected two piece maple top, that looks amazing, and appears to be Eastern Hard Rock maple, with just the right amount of flames with fabulous (not often seen on Custom Shop Les Paul’s) mineral streaks. It looks better than a lot of R9’s especially how even the flames are on both halves of the top. The colour doesn’t look as yellowish in the middle as it does in the pictures. It’s very difficult to get the colour right on the pics, it looks so much better in person.
The sound is fat, clear, and beautiful, even when played acoustically. It has so much sustain and resonates beautifully with low action giving it an easy smooth playing neck. I love the size of the neck, it’s slightly larger than an R9 and is extremely comfortable to play. I mostly played this guitar clean since I got into jazz and it sounds HUGE and full. Distorted tones are obviously amazing of course, it can handle anything.
This R8 has the perfect weight at 8lbs 10oz. making it easy and comfortable to play for hours. I think this particular Historic is an extreme value. It’s basically an R9 with a sightly larger neck at a much more attractive price.
It’s an exclusive 2015 Custom Shop ‘Historic Select’ reissue, the only other line built to the quality of the True Historic’s. It’s the highest quality Les Paul Gibson can build. A few Historic Selects were sent to the Chicago Music Exchange and a few were sent to Japan as ‘Hand Selected’ guitars.
It’s a beautiful flamed dirty lemon-burst (called ‘Green Lemon’ in the hand select booklet) with tight flames and mineral streaking aplenty, it has a mahogany body with matched graining, a very comfortable ’58 profile neck, all hide glue constriction, True Historic parts and a great sounding pair of custom buckers. Has had the VOS treatment from Gibson custom shop so some light ageing all over. Weighs a comfortable 3.8kg.
