Classic ’56 Strat Style with Upgraded Tone and Feel
The Fender Custom Shop 1956 Stratocaster Heavy Relic solidbody electric guitar gives you the spank, sparkle, and vibe of a Strat that’s spent the last half century gigging around the world. A real gem even among the collectors’ guitars in Sweetwater’s Guitar Gallery, this axe may look like a well-worn classic, but it sports a supremely playable modern 9.5″ radius and 6105 frets on its comfortable 10/56 large V-shaped neck. What’s more, this 1956 Stratocaster Heavy Relic combines superb-sounding hand-wound pickups with a reverse-wound middle pickup and modern 5-way switch wiring for an extended range of vintage tone without vintage buzz.
Fender Custom Shop 1956 Stratocaster Heavy Relic Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
- Ideal tonewoods for exceptional sustain and expression
- Hand-wound pickups deliver classic Strat chime and chunk
- The Heavy Relic treatment offers the look of a well-worn friend
Ideal tonewoods for exceptional sustain and expression
This Fender Custom Shop 1956 Stratocaster Heavy Relic boasts a tinted, one-piece quartersawn maple neck – a smart choice for tone-savvy guitarists. Quartersawn wood is much more rigid than flatsawn wood, which means it vibrates better, leading to more tone for you! And the lacquer finish, which is thinner than modern polyurethane finishes, will allow this ’56 Strat’s ash body to sing loud and clear.
Hand-wound pickups deliver classic Strat chime and chunk
The Fender Custom Shop’s 1956 Stratocaster Heavy Relic is loaded with three Fender Custom Shop hand-wound 1956 single-coil pickups that deliver all the legendary Strat spank, sparkle, chime, and chunk of an original mid-’50s Stratocaster. A reverse-wound middle pickup makes it possible to fight hum and noise, while a Tone Saver Treble Bleed circuit keeps your tone from getting too shrill.
The Heavy Relic treatment offers the look of a well-worn friend
The Fender Custom Shop’s Relic treatment starts with a period-correct nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes – standard back in the day – are significantly thinner than today’s polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to breathe. Nitro finishes not only look authentically vintage – they also enhance the instrument’s tonal qualities. Relic’d guitars are then put through the aging process, and in the case of Heavy Relics, that’s a lot of work to give you an axe that looks and feels like it’s seen over four decades of front-line action. The process creates instruments that are spitting images of the originals. Without sneaking a look at the neck heel stamps, you’d be hard-pressed to distinguish the Fender Custom Shop 1956 Stratocaster Heavy Relic from the real deal.
