A Heavy Relic 1954 Anniversary Strat!

As far as important years in music history go, 1954 was definitely a doozy. Elvis made his first commercial recordings, Bill Haley released “Rock Around the Clock”, and Leo Fender introduced the Stratocaster. To celebrate the this momentous event, Fender Custom Shop is releasing the 60th Anniversary 1954 Heavy Relic Stratocaster solidbody electric guitar. This exquisite guitar sports classic ’54 appointments such as a 1-piece ash body, a 1-piece maple neck with a U-shaped profile, and vintage-style hardware. It also rocks a cool, heavy relic finish. This limited edition electric guitar sounds as good as it looks, thanks to a trio of Fender’s new 1954 single-coil Strat pickups. The Fender Custom Shop 60th Anniversary 1954 Heavy Relic Stratocaster won’t last long! Call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer today!

Meticulous craftsmanship creates exceptional tone

This Fender Custom Shop 60th Anniversary 1954 Heavy Relic Stratocaster Solidbody Electric Guitar boasts a tinted, 1-piece quartersawn maple neck – a smart choice for tone-savvy guitarists. Quartersawn wood is much more rigid than flatsawn wood, which means it vibrates better, which means more tone for you! And the lacquer finish, which is thinner than modern polyurethane finishes, will allow this ’54 Strat’s 1-piece ash body to sing loud and clear.

1954 single-coil Stratocaster pickups provide classic Strat tone

Bell-like, jangly, smooth, and bluesy – ask any seasoned Strat player at Sweetwater, and you’ll get slightly different descriptions of what this iconic guitar is supposed to sound like. Words alone can’t capture the sound, but the new 1954 single-coil Stratocaster pickups Fender designed for this guitar certainly can. In fact, the only place the Fender Custom Shop went off-book with the 60th Anniversary 1954 Heavy Relic Stratocaster was the 5-way blade pickup selector they installed to give you access to those in between tones that early Strat players discovered by accident.

The Heavy Relic treatment means real-deal visuals

The Fender Custom Shop’s Relic treatment starts with a period-correct nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes – standard back in the day – are significantly thinner than today’s polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to breathe. Nitro finishes not only look authentically vintage, but they also enhance the instrument’s tonal qualities. Relic’s guitars are then put through the aging process, and in the case of Heavy Relics, that’s a lot of work to give you an axe that looks and feels like it’s seen over four decades of front-line action. The process creates instruments that are spittin’ images of the originals. Without sneaking a look at the neck heel stamps, you’d be hard-pressed to distinguish the Fender Custom Shop 60th Anniversary 1954 Heavy Relic Stratocaster Solidbody Electric Guitar from the real deal.
