Extremely clean with some very cool lacquer checking. Love these Gibson Gold Cases.
Gibson LP Special, TV yellow, made in USA 2015. This sunny character was part of Gibson’s 100th anniversary line, released in 2015. It originally had the infamous Robo-Tuners, but it’s okay, they’re gone now. There’s a few notable differences to a regular LP Special: no pickguard, a single master volume and master tone knob and a wraparound bridge… it’s a bit of a halfway point between a Junior and a Special. That adds up to a simple little tone machine: a slab of mahogany, a pair of P90s, heaps of attitude. The double-cut body always feels compact in the hands, so the neck has a feeling of being short and easy to move around on. The fretwork is really tidy and the bound board is a classy touch. Plugged in, there’s heaps of attack and snap: nothing barks and snarls like a P90. A generous dose of gain yields inspiring rock rhythm tones, this really chuggs and growls with the best of them. The yellow finish has a bit of rub wear and plenty of checking lines already, I can only imagine it’ll continue to wear fairly quickly and look like a real players vintage piece soon enough if you play it daily. These have been creeping up steadily in value in the last little while, and fair enough: it’s heaps of fun!
