The ES-335 Pro was included in Gibson price lists between January 1979 and April 1981 inclusive. It’s prime difference from the ES-335TD was the choice of pickups; higher output “Dirty Fingers”, more rock and roll, less jazz. The guitar had a much more current look too. The trapeze tailpiece was gone, a stop tailpiece in it’s place; and new black speed knobs. The pickups had no metal covers, just bare black coils.
In common with the early eighties ES-335TD, it had a maple body, three piece maple neck, 22 frets, 24 3/4″ scale, with 14° headstock pitch – unlike the new ES-335 Dot which had the old-style 17° pitch – but like the Dot it had a rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers.
Available finishes were Cherry and Sunburst. The Pro had a launch price of $949, $100 more than the ES-335TD.
